NATIONAL Under-19 men’s cricket team wicketkeeper Peter Karoho says he looks up to India Test captain Virat Kohli as his role model.
“When I was younger, I loved watching cricket on TV,” the 18-year-old said.
“At 12 years old, I watched Kohli and every game he played.
“It was from there that I came to love the game and I told myself that I’d start playing.”
Joining the local Pari Cricket Club, the Central and Manus native said that was when he played a lot of cricket.
And joining the Pacific International Hospital-sponsored Garamuts is an honour.
“I’m proud because I get to represent my family, village, and the country,” Karoho said.
He said since making the squad, he had improved in his batting and other skills.
Karoho said they all needed to focus on getting better in skills such as batting, bowling and fielding.
As the teenager puts his head down in training, he is also looking forward to his first trip overseas.
“I must do something good for my country and family,” Karoho said.
His encouragement to young Papua New Guineans who are also looking to play cricket is, do the small things right and the bigger tasks will be easier.
