INDONESIAN Ambassador Andriana Supandy says Indonesian and Papua New Guinean staff working at the embassy received their Coronavirus (Covid-19) jabs at the Port Moresby General Hospital.
Supandy and wife Ella, along with embassy staff and their families, received the vaccine.
He said his government was rolling out a similar vaccination programme for PNG diplomatic officers and citizens in Indonesia.
Hospital chief executive officer Dr Paki Molumi said that towards the end of February and in March, the hospital had a surge in the Covid-19 cases.
“We had more than 200 cases that came to our hospital so that’s why we are driving vaccinations so that we at least slow down the transmission and the number of cases in our hospital,” he said.
“We have very limited number of ICU beds.
“We have very limited staff, most of them are aging workforce, so we can’t afford to put all our staff at risk when we have the next surge.”
