Indons help PNG students

 THE Indonesian government through its embassy in Port Moresby has programmes running under its education section with the aim of bringing Indonesians and Papua New Guinean’s closer and to help one each other in achieving common prosperity as a friendly neighbouring country.

Indonesian Embassy Education and Culture Attaché Didik Wisnu Widjajanto said the education programme is to implement the commitment of the Indonesian government and PNG government in their collaboration on education.

 He said the Indonesian government has awarded scholarship to the youths of PNG to study in Indonesia. 

In 2011 and 2012, respectively, 22 and 27 scholarships were awarded and in 2013, the process is still in progress and hopefully about 30 scholarships will be given. 

Since, March 2012 the PNG-Indonesia Alumni Association (PNG-IAA) was established and the inauguration was conducted by PNG Ambassador to Indonesia Peter Ilau in Yogyakart.

Widjajanto said this year they plan to conduct seminars on education well and will be sending some PNG students to Jayapura.

The Indonesian cultural events will be from May 25-Sept 9 and the training on Agriculture will be held from April 22 to June 20.
