INFIGHTING and lack of proper dialogue among church leaders in Papua New Guinea is a drawback to Christianity and both have fixed as the country celebrate its 40th  independence anniversary, Body of Christ chairman Rev Joseph Walters said.

“We as church leaders have a role to evangelise our people together as we embrace our 40 years of independence,” he told The National.

“It is a new journey for leadership for the future of this nation,” he said.

Walters was responding to comments in the media by some church leaders and members of the public claiming that the Body of Christ had hidden agendas and was taking part in government politics.

“I read in the papers about some accusations against us, but I won’t judge those who have made the comments. Our intention is clear,” he said.

“We are the custodians of moral values and Christian faith of our people and that is what we have been doing.”

He said there was a misunderstanding that the Speaker of Parliament Theo Zurenuoc was their associate and had been funding their initiatives regarding the 400-year-old King James 1611 Bible.
