Information gathered to investigate aircraft accident

Chief commissioner Hubert Namani says the PNG Accident Investigation Commission (AIC) is gathering information to investigate an aircraft accident near Vanimo yesterday.
According to information received from the PNG Air Services Ltd, Namani said the incident involved a foreign aircraft.
“At this stage, initial information on the aircraft, its occupants and circumstances surrounding the incident is being gathered,” he said.
“The AIC has appointed a team of investigators to comply with the mandate of the national legislation and conduct of the investigation.
“Coordination with different authorities will be essential to facilitate the development of on-site activities.
“As part of its international obligations, the AIC will notify the occurrence to the appropriate state and parties to ensure timely exchange of relevant information in the context of the investigation.”
