Institute aims to provide opportunities for students

THE Pacific Training Institute (PTI) targets to bridge the gap between technical schools in the country and give opportunities to female students in the technical field.
“This year we have four females joining which is a good sign for the institution,” istitute director Sam Ale said.
“I encourage more female students to apply, all our pioneer 10 graduates are on-the-job training at various companies in the province,” he said.
Ale said the need for having a technical school in Morobe apart from National Polytechnic Institute was to give opportunities to more students to take up the technical field and reduce cost of parents sending their students to other provinces.
“The need for a technical school in Morobe apart from Polytech is to give access to students in Morobe and Mamose so it can reduce cost and produce students for technical fields in our country,” he said.
“The institute was opened early this year and is currently into its second semester.
“It provides technical trades like heavy equipment fitting, light vehicle mechanic, welding and it also offers some business courses.
“Out of the many grade 12 students that came out every year 40 per cent of these students receive offers to continue their education, but what happens to the other 60 per cent of these students?
“Unemployment is on the rise, and one of our main objective as an institution is to equip our students with the right skills and to provide an opportunity for them to have a job with standards technical skills to benefit them in the future.”
