MAPEX Training Institute, based in Lae but with branches throughout the country, remains committed to training and up-skilling the human resources of the country, according to Madang branch coordinator Robin Jacobs.
During a farewell gathering in Madang, Jacobs said the institute has been committed to train human resources of PNG where many of them today work in other countries and major mining, oil, gas and petroleum projects in PNG.
“As I speak, four from Madang who were trained by Mapex are working abroad,” he said.
“Many Papua New Guineans who were unable to make it to established colleges and universities have been trained by Mapex and today have good jobs.”
More than 70 students travelled to Lae last Tuesday to undergo various training at Mapex Training Institute – Lae campus.
The youths, mostly from Madang, comprises of 59 males and eight females for various skills training including plant operators ranging from three months to six months.
“Mapex is providing second chance education for our youths,” he said.
“We do not want to see them on the streets causing law and order issues,”
“After the training, we find temporary jobs for them to try out their skills before they secure permanent jobs.
“A lot of youths from Madang have benefited from Mapex trainings and we remain committed to train more youths.”
Jacobs said youths from Madang have approached Mapex Training Institute in Lae on individual bases but the institute now have an office in Madang and is recruiting the youths for training.
“This year, we are sending the first lot of more than 70 students,” he said.
“The interest is still there and we are looking forward to sending more students after six months.
“I appeal to parents out there to bring their kids who cannot make it to universities and colleges.
“Mapex now has an office in Madang and we will provide second chances for them.”
