The International Training Institution (ITI) has granted 60 students from various national high schools and secondary schools all over Papua New Guinea with a scholarship worth K200,000.
Managing director Kumaran Sentheyval said as part of its community service, ITI has been doing this programme since 2009 to help the brilliant but unfortunate students to pursue studies.
He said giving scholarship was ITI’s way of fulfilling social obligation to help the community and the country as well.
The recipients of the scholarship are selected by the principals and the boards of management of schools according to the performance and roles of the students.
So far 12 recipients have already registered and commenced their classes, while the rest of the recipients would enrol in the June and October intakes.
Kilakila Secondary School is one of the first schools to be part of this programme in which two of the outstanding students are selected every year.
The school principal, on behalf of all the schools, thanked ITI for giving this opportunity to students. The private-run institution has over 16 years produced quality graduates who have a high employment rate around the country.
Sentheyval said: “By 2017 we will be looking at bachelor degree programmes and also the scholarship will increase to K250,000 to develop more human resources and prepare them to be competitive and confident in the future.”
