Institute receives K100,00 for repairs
TOURISM Arts and Culture Minister Emil Tammur says the country’s culture and history are national treasures and should be preserved and promoted.
Tammur presented K100,000 of public investment programme (PIP) funding to the Institute of PNG Studies on Monday for renovations.
He was at the institute yesterday along with first secretary Andrew Yamai and acting executive director of the National Cultural Commission (NCC) Steven Kilanda.
Tammur said they did not want to dwell on the past because whatever happened in the past was gone.
He said the Government was facing cash flow issues but with limited funding, they had done much within a few months.
“I have a short-term and long-term plan for the NCC and its cultural institutions,” he said.
But for now, he said, they should focus on rebuilding NCC and its cultural institutions so that NCC and its institutions could continue to preserve, safeguard and promote the national treasures.
