CHRISTMAS gifts for students attending the Port Moresby Institute of Matriculations Studies (PIMS) came in the form of school-fee subsidies.
The institute, which was established in 1997, received K150,000 from the National Capital District Governor’s Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) Scholarship and School Fee Assistance Scheme (SFAS).
Governor Powes Parkop, pictured, said during the presentation that due to the 2017 elections his office could not honour their TVET and SFAS obligations on time.
This is the second time for the institute to benefit from the NCD Governor’s TVET Scholarship and SFAS programme.
Parkop commended the work of PIMS and other technical, vocational institutes in the country for the work they are doing for our young people to continue be positive in chasing their dreams.
The TVET Scholarship and SFAS programme is designed to empower youths and enhance skills training and knowledge.
Since its inception in year 2008, the programme has benefitted over 25,000 plus school leavers and non-school leavers. TVET scholarship and SFAS also cover NCD students attending other tertiary institutions and universities in the country.
Director and founder Norman Sike acknowledged the support from the Governor’s office. He said PIMS main objective is to give second chance to school leavers.
