THE Institution of Engineers of PNG (IEPNG) wants to see higher standards among young engineers,  Port Moresby chapter president Noel Mobiha says.

Addressing an IEPNG dinner, Mobiha said it would be running a programme on competency-based assessment  starting next year and appealed to young engineers to avoid bad habits like drinking, smoking and chewing betel nuts.

“Next year, the Institution of Engineers will be running a full programme on competency-based assessment,” he said.

Mobiha said the onus was on young engineers themselves.

“I see engineers walking around and saying, ‘I’m an engineer’,” he said.

“I usually ask: ‘Where’s your log book?’”
