EDUCATIONAL institutions in Madang hosted activities during the week leading to the national day, much to the appreciation of the public.
Business houses, such as as Andersons Foodland and Papindo and the commercial banks, decorated their premises and staff in PNG colours and finery.
Madang governor Jim Kas was the guest of honour at the flag-raising ceremony at Laiwaden Oval led by members of the police, Correctional Services,  church groups and school children.
Kas reviewed the parade put on by the two disciplinary forces.
The governor said he would clean up Madang physically, politically and administratively.
Kas also attended various lead up events, including the Madang International School celebrations on Friday.
The student representative council at Divine Word University hosted various independence anniversary events throughout the week.
Tusbab Secondary had their own Cultural Day celebrations on Thursday.
