PREPARATIONS for the national men’s train-on squads are on schedule but all international matches have been postponed indefinitely, says Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) general secretary Pius Letenge.
He said the uncertainty surrounding international matches would not affect their preparations.
Letenge said the two train-on squads — Black and Yellow — would assemble this week for their training camps.
“The only hiccup now is that all Fifa and Oceania Football Confederation tournaments for 2021 have been postponed until further notice,” he said.
Letenge said squad members in the northern half of the country would camp at the PNGFA Academy outside Lae while those in the Southern region would train at PNG Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
“When we are ready to host the opener of the three-match series, we will fly the southern players to Lae and vice versa,” he said.
Meanwhile, Letenge said the players who had been suspended and omitted from the train-on squads on disciplinary grounds would have their appeals heard this week.
They are Raymond Gunemba, Nigel Dabinyaba, Ishmael Pole, Roland Warisan, Jacob Sabua and Langarap Samol.
“But the hearing of their appeals should not stop the squads from assembling for the camps,” Letenge said.
“We have already advised those players to continue training on their own.”
The players who are assembling for the camps will train for the three-match series before a final squad is picked for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
