InterOil has donated K10,000 to the PNG Industry Malaria Initiative (PIMI) to assist in fighting  the disease in Gulf.

The province has one of the highest malaria cases in the country.

Kerema district in 2013 recorded more than 350 cases of malaria per 1,000 persons  – more than twice the national average.

InterOil said it would work with PIMI and  others to improve anti-malarial programmes and awareness for effective treatment at village level.

InterOil will work with the provincial government, industry stakeholders and health providers to support existing health services to address malaria.

Most of InterOil’s exploration licences are in Kerema including the Elk-Antelope.
