INTERVENERS in a Supreme Court application filed by Opposition Leader Belden Namah questioning the constitutionality of Prime Minister James Marape’s election will be challenging the competency of the application.
The interveners comprising Marape, Speaker of the Parliament Job Pomat, Minister of Justice and Attorney-General Davis Steven, Pangu Pati and the Registrar of Political Parties Alphonse Gelu told the court that they had issues regarding the application which they would be filing.
The interveners were expected to raise various issues raised during court on Friday which they were filing to challenge and clarify whether Namah had the capacity to file the application as a member and Leader of Opposition since he (Namah) was found guilty by a leadership tribunal on abuse of office and misconduct.
They are claiming that since the tribunal found Namah guilty, he was recommended for dismissal from duties.
However, Namah stayed the proceedings and where this stood today. They also informed the court whether Namah could invoke the court’s jurisdiction on the same issues in a previous application which was dismissed.
Supreme Court judge David Cannings adjourned the matter to Friday.
