Investigate officers in Education Dept

Letters

EDUCATION secretary Dr Uke Kombra should investigate his officers.
There is a syndicate operating in the department that collude to steal from teachers who teach in remote areas of this country.
These officers are from finance, human resources and other sections within the department.
My younger brother teaches in a remote school in Kerema, Gulf.
Since last year there was a payroll deduction made to a finance company for a loan obtained.
The deduction was made for 14 fortnights without him actually getting the loan.
Realising that, in December, he travelled from Kerema, walking long distances to catch a boat and catch a PMV bus to come to Port Moresby only to find out why there was a deduction made to the finance company.
Upon his inquiry with Investment Promotion Authority, he found out that the finance company doesn’t exist.
Those at the Education Department were not very helpful.
This year, when he went back to the department, an officer told him that as of his last pay period, no more deduction was made to the finance company and he would get full pay.
Dr Kombra, can you do something about that and ensure those involved are dealt with?
Do no spend too much time to deregister elementary teachers but focus on your corrupt officers who continue to steal from teachers as well.
It is unfair on those elementary teachers that you have deregistered. Some of this teachers are better than the genuine teachers.
Your job is to instruct and direct the inspectors to visit schools in rural and urban to assess the teachers.
Do not just deregister them.
Regardless of their grade point average or using another person’s name, the important thing is if they can meet the performance criteria and deliver to the expectation what else do you want?
Remove those who cannot perform and deliver.
Be realistic.
