LAWYER Greg Sheppard has been arrested and charged a third time after it was alleged that he and Samson Jubi, of Jubi Lawyers, had illegally obtained Bank of South Pacific Ltd (BSP) statements for a local accounting firm.
The bank staff, who had allegedly supplied the statements has been sacked.
Police Commissioner David Manning told The National that Sheppard was charged with three counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice, knowingly and fraudulently uttering a false document and forging a genuine document. “Police learnt that on June 17, Sheppard, of Young and Williams Lawyers, and Jubi, approached BSP’s Kiunga (Western) retail branch manager Ivy David and induced her to print bank statements for Pape Accountants and Business Advisors owned by Special Constable Andy Peperaija Pape and three members of special police forensic and criminal investigation team – Det Sgt Philip Yonge, Det Snr Const Derick Tangua and Det Snr Const Belden Robert,” he said.
“Police obtained court orders, searched BSP and confirmed that the bank statements for the members of the investigation team were illegally obtained by David while she was working as BSP’s retail manager for Kiunga branch and illegally distributed them to Jubi and Sheppard without the consent or authorisation of the active bank account holders.
“Police confirmed that BSP terminated David on June 26 on the basis of misconduct and breach of BSP policies and procedures.
“In light of the unlawful disclosure of the relevant bank account statements, both police and BSP were prompted and reviewed the conduct of the six different bank accounts owned and operated by David and confirmed that:

  • LAST Jan 3, a payment of K3,000 via internet banking was deposited into her account, number 1000938007, from the account of Mundi No 1 Ltd, number 1001557926, operated by Jubi (CEO of OTFRDF); and,
  • LAST Jan 31, a payment of K10,000 via internet banking was deposited into her bank account again from Jubi’s account.

“Police alleged that David was bribed by Jubi and the relevant bank account statements were not released in good faith.
“Actions of David violates the members of investigation team’s constitutionally guaranteed protections from arbitrary search
and privacy including private records.
“Police alleged that the bank statements were illegally obtained to construct a number of allegations against members of investigation team, particularly targeting special Const Pape and presented to the courts.
“On Monday, at 4.30pm, Sheppard was picked up, arrested by members of the investigation team, and charged for a third time.”
