TWO members of a police task force who got drunk and caused public nuisance in Mt Hagen city in full uniform are now under investigation.

Western Highlands provincial police commander, Chief Supt Martin Lakari told The National yesterday that their actions brought disgrace to the force and the officers would be disciplined.

Lakari said the two members were drunk and caused nuisance on the road near Saint Paul’s Catholic church on Wednesday afternoon when members of the mobile squad 7 approached and stopped them.

He said the two officers did not listen to their colleagues and there was commotion and exchange of abusive words.

He said there was internal investigation and the report would be presented today for him to take the next course of action.

“I supported the members of the mobile squad for their intervention,” Lakari said.

“I do not expect my policemen and women to drink in public and cause nuisance.”

Lakari said that police internal investigation unit was investigating the matter and he would have the report and recommendation by today to determine the course of action to take next.
