Investors told: Stop wearing politicians’ hats
The National, Thursday February 12th, 2015
OPPOSITION leader Don Polye has called on investors to refrain from “wearing politicians’ hats”.
Polye made the call in response to Oil Search’s Peter Botten saying Papua New Guinea needed political stability.
“Our investors should not be perceived as supporters of a political party or any individual politicians,” he said.
He said they were PNG’s development partners and their impartiality should always be maintained.Polye said they should guide the politicians with advice on their grievances to make PNG an investment destination in the Asia-Pacific region.
He said parliamentarians were well aware that Prime Minister Peter O’Neill was being implicated in a chain of allegations. “These allegations warrant for his resignation or a change in government,” Polye claimed. Polye assured the investors that if the Opposition was in government, their business operations or investment schedule would not be affected.
“Our alternative government policy ensures the economic environment like transport infrastructure, ICT and economic systems for our investors are improved to the next level,” he said. “We are adamant to outperform the government when in power.” Polye said when he was the deputy Prime Minister in the Somare Government, they engineered the economic growth PNG was enjoying now. “I know the pros and cons of economic dilemma that we had faced and the repeat should not occur,” he said.
Polye said the 10.1 per cent Government share in Oil Search would be sold if the Opposition was in power.
