MOROBE administrator Bart Ipambonj, pictured, says he will follow the money trail to ensure public funds allocated for projects in the province achieve their intended purposes.
Ipambonj, a career public servant who has spent more than 30 years in Morobe and recently appointed administrator, said times were tough.
He said whatever little funding allocated by the government must be utilised to achieve maximum benefit. Ipambonj said this during announcement of the Morobe government’s 100 day development plan in Lae on Tuesday.
“We (public servants) sometimes abuse the process because our egos take us to different directions,” he said.
“We have to restore processes again. We have to restore all areas of administration.
“This includes restoring administration at the district and local-level government levels as well.
“As the provincial administrator, I’ll be coming down hard on these areas.
“A check-and-balance system must be put in place.
“The little money that is given to you must be put to good use.
“My job is to go around and check to ensure that what is given to you is used correctly.”
Ipambonj said the Morobe government had a number of development programmes it aims to achieve, including:

  • Achieving a budget of K1 billion by 2020;
  • rebuilding Morobe through the ‘Kisim Bek Morobe’ initiative
  • provincial education reforms;
  • border control and service delivery;
  • economic road corridors;
  • infrastructure and growth centres; and,
  • Triple-one policy of K1 per person per day.

Ipambonj said the programmes would not be successful if public servants did not cooperate and work together to deliver them.
