PRIME Minister James Marape says the Internal Revenue Commission (IRC) has collected K200 million extra from the estimated tax collection of about K8 billion for this year. He said despite the economy not doing well due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, the IRC managed to perform as expected.
“The Treasury focused only on K8.1 billion in handing down the money plan last year but there has been a great improvement in terms of revenue collection through IRC and Customs,” Marape said.
He also expressed his appreciation for taxpayers stating that without them, they would not have collected that much revenue.
“We pledge to assist IRC and Customs in the best of our ability in delivering services needed by the people,” he said.
Tax commissioner Samuel Loi said it has been a rough road for taxpayers, business community and also IRC as the tax administration to collect revenues and not to harm taxpayers.
“With the introducing and launching of the online platform, it eases the tax payers coming to do business and most importantly helps avoid the spread of Covid-19.”
