THE Internal Revenue Commission’s (IRC) Mt Hagen branch opened a temporary office space at the Gapina Building in Mt Hagen on Friday.
The new office space will be used by processing officers during the election period.
Officers from other centres like Jiwaka, Southern Highlands, and Enga will operate out of the new office.
IRC Highlands operations director Igo Morea said the reason for the central location was that most of their offices were located in areas where counting would be hosted and that would affect normal operations.
“We know of the nature of elections especially in the Highlands and we want to operate in a place that is convenient for our clients as well as our staff.”
Morea said the safety of staff and clients was paramount.
The opening ceremony was witnessed by IRC comissioner-general Sam Koim.
The building will be used until Jan 31, 2023.
