THE PNG Rugby League Foundation NGI Schoolboy Zone trials were played in Kokopo last Thursday.

The teams in attendance were from West New Britain, New Ireland and hosts, East New Britain.

Each province was represented by an U15s and U17s team with the matches played in a round-robin format.

The NGI Zone trials provided the opportunity for PNG Rugby League Foundation representatives, Shane Morris and Arnold Krewanty, to identify players to make up the NGI schoolboys team that will take part in the National Schoolboys Championships later on this year.

Played at Kalabond Oval, the matches showcased some of the best talent from each of the provinces and displayed some impressive football played by all the teams.

Morris, expressed his gratitude to the organisers.

“With any footy tournament, the success of the event goes back to how well it is organised.

“I’d like to say thank you to the management of the Agmark Gurias and the ENBRL in allowing us to use Kalabond oval to host the NGI Zone trials on such a great ground and also Coca-Cola Amatil, Airlines PNG and Boroko Motors for their continuous support of the National Schoolboys’ programme,” Morris said.
