GULF Isou head coach Roger Laka has named a 50-man train-on squad for pre-season training ahead of the new Digicel Cup season.
The former SP Hunters playmaker told The National yesterday that 10 more players would be added from Southern Super League National Gaming Control Board Cup side Isou Development.
The team will assemble on Monday for their medical checks before kicking off pre-season training on Wednesday.
“Our aim is to be a force in the Digicel Cup and not just make up the numbers,” Laka said.
“We will retain most of our players from last year and hopefully secure some experienced players for the coming season.
“On Monday and Tuesday, the players will go through medical checks then we’ll start the first session on Wednesday.”
Laka said by the end of next month, the team would have an internal trial match to trim the squad to 35 men before the final 30 players are announced prior to kick-off.
“One of the things I’ll be working on with the squad during pre-season is consistency,” the former Papua New Guinea Kumul said.
“We had a good backline (last season) but lacked experience in the forwards.
“We have targeted some experienced forwards to boost our pack next season.
“I think defence will be our key focus area for this season.” Squad: Benson Lapun, Charles Kumbi, Elijah Kutz, Emmanuel Parua, Eric Batia, Ezikiel Minig, Gabby Taune, Jimmy Amean, Junior Aukeke Satifa, Jonah Bob, Darren Anabe, Jimson Meli, Tine Jack Tony, Mega Pali, Frazer Josh, Johnny Ephraim, Steven Pokare, Yomo Yakopa, Makara Hura, Mark Kumbi, Michael Toane, Obert Muri, Ray Amos Junior, Raymond Batia, Rieko Jimmy, Samson Pirika, Steven Mark, Michael Timothy, Joe Omaro, Smith Siviri, Issac Bandi, Chris Jerry, Gairo Kapana, Benson Bip, Otto Wrakonei, Charles Sul, Radley Brawa, Hoods Kawage, David Joseph, Jerry Teme, Eliakim Lukara, Andickson Yamason, Joel Tapia, Frank Kagai, Nicky Pilyo, Junior Belo, Super George, Dobi Michael, Junior Yambe, John Kalimba.
