Israel and US need PNG

Letters

Israel and the USA need their friends to stand with them in this time of need when there is so much animosity against them by the whole world. This is a time when Papua New Guinea as a Christian country has to show its true colours.
PNG has nothing to lose by standing with the USA now.
It will forever cement a solid friendship with the US and Israel.
If Australia or New Zealand do not want to quickly stand up with the US, PNG has to show its maturity by standing up with the US now.
Standing up in support of Israel and the US at this time will not only cement our relationship with these two countries, but will also show publicly on the world stage what PNG has been preaching – that it is a Christian country.
Our prime minister went to Israel and he was well received by the prime minister of Israel.
Israel then granted PNG visa-free access to travel to Israel, which is good for those Christians who want to travel to Israel and visit biblical sites.
Following from that, the Israel ambassador was here and PNG welcomed him.
Naturally, PNG should have a special relationship with Israel.
The USA has also always been a friend of PNG.
There are many missionaries and church institutions started by American missionaries in PNG.
It was therefore natural for Papua New Guinea to stand with Israel and the USA when US President Donald Trump declared that the US recognises Jersualem as the capital of Israel and that the US embassy will be moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
On December 21, 2017, at the United Nations, 128 members of the general assembly voted against President Trump’s declaration of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Only five member countries of the United Nations voted with Israel and USA.
Sadly for PNG, our vote went with the 128 countries.
Had we voted with the USA and Israel and be counted with the five, PNG would have received immense blessings from God and cemented a solid friendship with both Israel and USA.
It is not too late now.
PNG has to apologise to the USA and Israel and be the third country to promise to build its embassy in Jerusalem.
Guatemala, a South American country, has already announced its intention to move its embassy to Jerusalem.
Once PNG makes that move, President Donald Trump might even attend Apec in November.
In the meantime, PNG friends of Israel and America are asked to get together and discuss a way forward.
