A FOREIGN company will provide technical advice to farmers in Namatanai, New Ireland, on how to grow a variety of quality produce for commercial use.
Namatanai MP Walter Schnaubelt said Israeli company Innovation Agri would help farmers improve their farming techniques.
He revealed last week during the first anniversary of the WFA (Walter’s Farming Association) Buying Point, a subsidiary of the Namatanai Advancement Ltd (NAL), the district’s business arm.
The Buying Point buys crops from farmers and sells them to the National Catering Services (NCS) which provides catering for the Lihir gold mine.
Innovation Agri has been operating in the country for some time.
Schnaubelt said the district would capitalise on the three-year contract agreement with the NCS to continue buying fruits and vegetables from the district.
“The NSC will continue to buy fruits and vegetables from the Buying Point and we need to look at how to provide quality and variety,” he said.
“We have Innovation Agri to provide professional advice for us to improve our farming.”
The company is responsible for projects such as the Illimo farm. outside the National Capital District and a poultry project in the highlands.
Prime Minister James Marape commended the district’s initiative which other districts should follow.
