MEMBERS of the Correctional Services have been told to focus on the basics this year.
Deputy commissioner for corporate affairs Dominic ToMar said this was in line with the service’s theme for the year, “Building on the basics”.
Speaking at the CS headquarters last Wednesday, ToMar said: “We have focused on the basics in the past two years under the themes: “Back to Basics” in 2010 and ‘Consolidating the Basics’ in 2011.
“We continue our focus on the basics this year with the theme ‘Building on the basics’.
ToMar spoke said in the past 30 months many situations in administration/management and operations the service faced were the results of or were caused by a lack of clear policy directions, non-compliance with procedures and/or out-of-date systems.
He said there were a number of policies and procedures staff and management must comply with.
He urged the officers to see this year as the year of changes.
“2012 is going to be year of changes. National election later this year will bring some changes in political and bureaucratic levels which we do not have any control over but certainly will affect Correctional Services.
“However, there are changes we can control or determine.
“We can change our attitudes in our relationship with others and towards work, which can bring improvements to a higher level.
“Let’s resolve to all these in 2012,” he said.
ToMar appealed to all officers to build strong and vibrant workforce in the CS this year.
