ITI expanding Lae campus due to increase in demand

THE International Training Institute (ITI) has been in Lae for 15 years and is investing in education with the official opening of its new Lae campus on July 9.
Managing director Senthil Kumaran Sentheyval told The National that providing accessible quality education to school leavers was important to the development of the expanding city.
“We have moved from our old location (at Dickson Doors, Voco Point) because we are trying to improve in terms of the facilities and to reach the higher education standard,” he said.
“We know there is a huge demand in Lae given that Morobe is the largest province, population wise, and we want to be in this hub.”
The new double-storey campus building is located at Sletjford St, main wharf.
The campus has four lecture rooms on the ground floor, with a mini computer laboratory, first aid room and toilets.
The second floor has three lecture rooms, three computer laboratories, an academic staff room, education manager’s office, library and book shop, and information technology (IT) support staff room.
Sentheyval said it would soon have a student recreational area and a canteen.
ITI’s Lae campus offers certificate and diploma courses in information technology, business management, accounting, marketing and others.
Sentheyval said new diploma programmes linked to universities in PNG and Australia would soon be offered.
“We have seen Lae develop over the last four years and we see a good future here,” he said.
“I think that will continue and outside of Port Moresby, this is the place where demand for (quality education) will be.”
Guest speaker representing the Morobe governor, Steven Bapi, described the new campus as an investment to Morobe people as it would support the provincial government’s zero-drop out policy.
