THE City Pharmacy Ltd (CPL) Group last Friday officially opened a K5 million investment in retail business, Jack’s of PNG.

This was done in partnership with Jack’s of Fiji and marked an important expansion for CPL and a significant step towards elevating the shopping experience in Papua New Guinea.

The launching was the second investment by CPL with a Fijian firm last week.

Last Tuesday, it announced a joint venture arrangement with Fiji’s Motibhai Group to operate a duty free shop at the Jackson International airport, Port Moresby.

Jack’s of PNG carries specialty brands like Rip Curl and sells mid-priced brand-name apparel, accessories, cosmetics, gifts, jewellery and shoes.

A customer, Cecilia Norea said: “This shop is good, most of us average Papua New Guineans cannot

go to Fiji to buy Fijian garments, now the garments are at our doorstep.”

General manager for commercials Omprakash Seshadri said Jack’s of PNG planned to open more stores in few years’ time if there are good locations.

He said the price of items were on par with that of Fiji because of the trade agreement among Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) member nations.

“Pricing point of stuff brought in from Fiji to what we sell here is not very different.

“We want to explore the designs by Papua New Guinean artists, through Jack’s (PNG) maybe we can spread out and show what Papua New Guineans can offer in terms of art,” he said.
