WEST New Britain governor Sasindran Muthuvel says his government is grateful to the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (Jica) through the Japanese government for its support in education.
He said over the years, Jica had contributed much to the development of schools in the country both in the urban and rural areas.
“We have seen the help and efforts by the Japanese government through the work of Jica in many big and small projects,” he said.
“Japan has always been an ally of PNG and we have seen this as evident through Japanese government-funded projects.”
Muthuvel made the remarks while thanking Japanese Ambassador to Papua New Guinea Nobuyuki Watanabe in Talasea recently for Jica’s help in building two four-in-one classrooms in the province, the first one in 2015 and the second more recently.
Talasea MP Freddie Kumai acknowledged and thanked Jica for its contribution to improving education in WNB.
“One way of bringing this country forward is through building its human resources starting with the future generation who are school-aged children,” he said.
Kumai said Jica and the Japanese government had been supportive towards the national government through their programmes in improving education in the country.
“Education is one of the many areas of priority that I would be focusing on in my term,” he said.
He urged schools to look after the new infrastructure.
