The Japanese government, through its grant assistance for cultural grassroots projects, presented K320,000 worth of musical instruments to the Papua New Guinea Defence Force Military Band.
Japanese Ambassador Satoshi Nikajima  handed over the instruments to Defence Force Commander, Brigadier-General Gilbert Toropo at Goldie Barracks on Monday and said it was a sign of goodwill from the Japanese government to enhance relations with Papua New Guinea.
Nikajima said it was part of his government’s assistance towards the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) meetings next year.
“PNG will host the Apec meeting and I hope the military band will train well with these instruments and will have opportunities to show their performance in the presence of the heads of Apec economies,” he said.
