A FISHERIES jetty and market for Sappa villagers along the Morobe coast are expected to benefit them and other neighbouring villagers greatly.
Huon Gulf MP Ross Seymour and National Fisheries Authority (NFA) officers were at Sappa to launch the project.
Seymour pledged his support to the project.
He also thanked the NFA for the partnership in developing the fisheries industry in the electorate.
Joshua Ryan, executive manager project management unit of NFA, said the authority wanted to help coastal communities on fisheries-related projects such as jetties and markets.
The jetty and market and those at Finschhafen and Tewae-Siassi would link up with NFA’s proposed fisheries hub at Voco Point in Lae.
The Voco Point site would be a consolidation point for distribution to various markets.
The NFA has been behind coastal fisheries projects in coastal provinces to empower fishermen.
Similar projects have been implemented in coastal provinces.
