Three students from the University of Technology have been given the opportunity to go through job training on a project supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica).
The trainees are Salome Yatukoman, Joel Ravuth and Junior Wai and they have been attached with Dai Nippon Construction, a Japanese company engaged in the Port Moresby sewerage systems upgrade.
The sewerage project is supported by Jica under it’s official development assistant loan programme.
Wai said the work experience was helping them understand office management and different engineering work in a construction project setting.
“We have put into practice what we have been taught and we also learnt so many thing which we have never learnt before,” Wia said.
The trainees were given opportunities to work as administration officers as well as supervise and also be involved in the construction work.
“Working with a Japanese company is an honuor as they emphasised quality and standards all the time,” Wai said.
“The working environment was fantastic and we had a great working relationship with supervisors in the project.”
The trio say it was a privilege to work with Dai Nippon Construction, a prominent engineering company.
The interns also learnt good work ethics and time management which they were told were important for quality performance and job satisfaction in any organisation.
