Jiwaka hospital builds, uses hydro-electric system
The National, Friday 09th of May, 2014
A K9.9 million hydro-electricity system project was completed on Tuesday at the Kudjip Hospital in Jiwaka.
The hospital is operated by the Nazarene Health Ministries.
It received its first constant power supply generated by its own hydro-power reservoir – thanks to the AusAID Incentive Fund.
Speaking at a forum on the Australian AID Incentive Fund held in Port Moresby on Wednesday, Nazarene Health Ministry’s secretary Baru Dirye expressed his gratitude to the donor for helping them.
He said the project was quite challenging as they had to engage consultants to do a feasibility study, build and design a suitable and appropriate hydro-power system for Kudjip.
“We are receiving power and we are grateful,” he said.
Dirye described the project as sufficient, safe, reliable and cost-effective for the hospital, College of Nursing and Kudjip Primary School.
Dirye said the Incentive Fund hadmade a significant difference in the health sector by improving health facilities, not only in Kudjip, but in Alotau, Milne Bay, and Vanimo, West Sepik, as well.
He said the development was a step forward for the health sector and would certainly improve the health outcome for the people.
