NEW Jiwaka police commander Senior Insp Kauga Maragil says his priority areas are accommodation and police structure for the province.
“Once the structure is in place, I will look at improving the condition of police houses and build more police houses for the officers,” he said.
Maragil said most police houses were rundown and conditions were not fit for human occupation.
He said police officers would be brought into the province if accommodation was guaranteed.
“That is why some maintenance work have to be done first to some police houses that are currently on the ground now in the province,” Maragil said. “This is where we will have to look for assistance from our stakeholders to support us financially or in kind.”
He said they would have to seek assistance from the provincial government and local members to address the housing problem face by police in the province.
“No new police officers will be coming into the province if there are no accommodation available for them,” he said.
“Currently, Jiwaka does not have a provincial police headquarters and that also needs funding.”
Maragil said the province needed a coordinating centre and needed its own headquarters.
