VOTING in the local level government elections in Jiwaka will start today after being deferred.

Provincial election manageress Rosie Pandi said polling was deferred because of the election petition court case between Jiwaka Governor Dr William Tongamp and former MP Jamie Maxtone-Graham that was heard yesterday at the Minj court house.

Pandi said the one-day polling was expected to be peaceful.

She said training of polling officials had ended over the weekend and officials were stationed in each of the 184 council wards.

“Polling teams have been deployed since Monday and I’m looking forward to let it go ahead,” Pandi said.

She said polling on the roadsides was expected to be completed today while officials in remote areas had been sent ahead.

Pandi said voting for remote areas like Jimi and Kambia might need an extra day of voting.

She said counting for other LLGs would be held in Banz, while for South Wahgi LLG counting would take place in Minj.
