Jiwaka, WHP plan AIDS Day activities
The National, Wednesday 28th November, 2012
JIWAKA and Western Highlands are planning to mark World AIDS Day with a range of activities.
The celebrations would involve business houses and other stakeholders involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS in the two provinces.
Western Highlands planned to mark the day on Friday in Mt Hagen and Jiwaka on Saturday at Kudjip market.
Western Highlands provincial AIDS technical officer Apollos Yimbak said this year’s events would be bigger and better than previous years.
Yimbak said this year’s World AIDS Day theme was “zero new HIV/AIDS infection, zero HIV/AIDS-related deaths and zero HIV/AIDS stigma and discrimination”.
He said it was vital that the public attend the events to learn more on HIV/AIDS, how to care for people living with the virus, get information about voluntary testing and counselling services available in their districts and how to avoid contracting the virus.
