JIWAKA women are now prepared to become equal partners in the development of their new province.
Women leaders, representing 280 groups in the province, held their first meeting in Banz last Friday witnessed by acting provincial administrator Tokana Hasavi.
Women’s representative on the Jiwaka provincial executive council Rosen Kiap told The National that the meeting was held to collect data, establish a provincial structure, discuss the setting up of district and provincial women councils.
Kiap said next month she would be visiting the three districts of North Waghi, South Waghi, Jimi and the sub-districts of Anglimp, Nondugl, Lower, Middle and Upper Jimi to establish the women’s councils.
She said after establishing the district council they would launch the provincial council.
“All the paper work for the establishment of the district and provincial council of women were compiled and sent to the office of the provincial administrator Governor William Tongamp,” Kiap said.
She said after the establishment of the councils, the women’s groups would go into small income generating activities to improve the living standard of their families.
She thanked Dr Tongamp for assisting her to establish the women’s councils and their network.
Hasavi said women played a vital role in the welfare of their families and he would closely work with them to achieve their goals.
He said Jiwaka was a new province and he welcomed women as equal partners in its development and growth.
