ONE coronavirus (Covid-19) death was reported at noon on Sunday raising Papua New Guinea’s death toll to 69.
The death of a 60-year-old man was reported in Jiwaka but he died in Western Highlands.
PNG Covid-19 pandemic spokesman Chief Supt Dominic Kakas said in a media statement that 192 new Covid-19 infections were registered on Sunday, raising the total cases in PNG to 8,602.
Globally, the total confirmed cases of the Covid-19 is 135,994,390 including 747,219 new cases reported on Sunday.
The global death toll is 2,939,078 of which 11,312 were new cases.
Meanwhile, the cumulative total Covid-19 cases in Morobe as of April 6 stands at 400, Morobe health authority executive officer Dr Kipas Binga said.
He said Lae was the province’s hotspot with 341 cases registered.
Bulolo was next with 15, followed by Nawaeb with 11, Markham with four and Huon Gulf with one.
Menyamya, Tewai-Siassi and Kabwum had yet to register any cases.
Dr Binga said the districts that had not reported any cases were isolated and did not rule out the possibility that cases could exist there but had not been reported.
He confirmed that there was no testing or swabbing done in those districts.
He said testing needed to be done in all districts but it was difficult to do so in some areas because of poor access as well as inadequate logistical support.
He said towards the end of last year, the Government gave the PHA K200,000 for the first year of response to the Covid-19.
Dr Binga said another K2 mil was given last year and they plan to acquit it.
On Sunday, 12 provinces recorded new Covid-19 cases.
They were NCD (42 new cases), WHP (76), Western (23), Morobe (22), West New Britain (14), Central (4), Jiwaka (4), SHP (3), Chimbu (1), Madang (1), Hela (1) and EHP (1).

  • WHY DEATH(S) AND INFECTION ONLY REPORTED AND NOT RECOVERY?
SO FRUSTRATING WITH ONE SIDED REPORTING IN THE MEDIA BY NPCC.
IN MY OPINION (AND SOME WILL DISPUTE) CERTAINLY WE’RE NOT MANAGING AND DISSEMINATING INFORMATION WELL ENOUGH TO THE EXPECTATION OF PUBLIC.

WE SHOULD HAVE TALLY OR TABULATED INFORMATION BY NPCC IN PROVINCES (PHA) OF:

    1. INFECTION
    2. DEATH
    3. RECOVERY
    4. TOTAL

    JUST A THOUGHT, M-TASOL.
