JOEL Toki, 22, is happy to help his sister in her clothing business in Port Moresby.
He works at the Naz Clothing and Accessories shop at the Pacifika Women Network trade centre in Waigani, Port Moresby.
It has been in operation for about a year.
They resumed business this week after a two-week break due to the 14-day lockdown, and business is slow.
They get their stock from Australia which is in jeopardy because of the current shutdown in shipping.
They cannot get any new stock right now.
Toki, from Southern Highlands, said not too many customers were coming in.
“It is not busy,” he said.
“We get our products from Australia by ship.
“We have the final bales we are selling now.
“We are selling the leftovers. “Once this is finished, we do not know whether we will get new bales.”
They get the stock every month.
“Some of the clothes are sold at half price,” Toki said.
“Then we have clearance sales. “Then we will get another stock if the lockdown is over.”
His sister Nicole Alkin has other clothing shops in Mendi and Mt Hagen, as well as food outlets and rental cars.
Toki has been a great helping hand.
When it comes to clearance sales, Toki advertises and markets the sales.
“I am helping my sister since she is selling at the Pasifika Women’s centre,” he said.
“She is family so I am helping her.
“I used to assist other mothers when they need help.
“I must help. I volunteer and help our women. After all it is for our country.”
Toki finished Grade 12 in 2018 at Tokarara Secondary School in Port Moresby.
