YOUTHS from Joyce Bay in Port Moresby South used touch 9s as a tool to unite their community for this year’s Independence celebration games over the weekend.
Organisers Tony Henry, Baba, Jimmy Banu and Vere Henry took time out from their regular Joyce Bay 9s touch league association to run the games in the name of uniting their community.
The organising committee invited people from all parts of the Joyce Bay community to come and register their teams and take part in the sports that started on Friday and ended yesterday.
The games were organised using their own funds to support their referees and support staffs from Joyce Bay.
Spokesman Ian Serege said their association wanted to promote good values among the community especially among the youth.
“We organised the sports for the community to not only interact and know each other but also to show our youth that we are all one community and need to work together.”
Serege said Joyce Bay 9s touch association also believe in building friendly relationship among the ethnic groups living in Joyce Bay that could depend on each other in times of troubles and sorrows.
“We’re just a tool to unite the whole community,” he said.
