MT Hagen resident judge Justice Colin Makail has appealed to Western Highlanders to cooperate and help the law and justice sector in the province to cut law and order problems there.
He said judges, magistrates and lawyers were ready for the legal year in Western Highlands which started last Thursday.
He said with hundreds of civil and criminal cases filed in the court house, “they will be tackled and dealt with in a timely manner because now we have three resident judges here”.
“With the New Year and the election period, there will be a lot of activities and queries and we will work together to help and solve their court disputes” Makail said.
He said there would be election disputes where candidates would seek the court’s interpretation on the declaration of election results.
He said they now had enough judges and magistrates to go through the cases starting with those from the 1990s.
“There are hundreds of cases remaining and it will be a big work for judges and lawyers but we are trying to start from there,” he said.
He said the law and justice sector “will continue to look after people’s welfare and the people must continue to uphold the rule of law”.
