THREE National and Supreme Court judges yesterday visited the remote Kwikila station in Rigo, Central province to meet locals and educate them on criminal court procedures.
This was the second visit there following the re-opening of the Kwikila national court last week.
Head of the Waigani Criminal Court, Justice Panuel Mogish, and two acting judges Martin Ipang and Mekeo Gauli, were accompanied by representatives of the law and justice sectors.
They included lawyers from the office of the state solicitor, public prosecutor, police, magistrates and court staff.
Representatives of Paul Paraka lawyers were also there to educated locals on the various procedures involve in criminal court cases.
The court users forum saw a good number of participants, mostly locals who were eager to know criminal court proceedings.
Mogish told the participants that the Kwikila National Court would cater for all Central court cases in the Rigo district.
Berena’s cases in the Kairuku district would be heard at the Bomana National Court.
He said the purpose of the forum was to educate people on the process and procedures of court.
“The community must understand that law and order issue is not a state problem- it is a community problem which can be only addressed by community with the assistance from state institution.
“The community is challenge to take ownership of law and order issues,” Mogish said.
He said citizens have a public responsibility to ensure that their societies were safe and secured.
