NORTHERN Governor Gary Juffa says the Oro provincial government will put together a plan for the coronavirus as precautionary measure.
Speaking at the presentation of his government’s budget, Juffa said one of the measures was to stop all the fishing and logging vessels coming into the country.
“We just had a brief discussion and we are looking at putting together a provincial plan in regards to the Covid-19,” he said.
“Fortunately, most of our people are rural-based and they are subsistence farmers so returning to the land and isolating themselves should not be a problem.
“However, we will definitely have issues in terms of taking care of our law and order and health issues,” he said.
Juffa said the three leaders of the province would work together to put together a package that would help carry out a massive awareness.
“Our government has not encouraged this, starting from heath minister he should be leading by example, he is very quiet about it,” Juffa said.
“Every province should have a provincial plan for the Covid-19 and then the districts should have a breakdown on the exercise as well.
“The other issue is that we all should immediately put a stop to all vessels, log ships, fishing vessels – these are the danger vessels and alarm vessels.
“The manpower on these vessels do not come through the normal process.
“They operate outside of the stringent process of recruitment,” he said.
“They pick up seamen who have issues that cannot get jobs.
“Tourism should be banned and the tourists turned away.
“I know it’s bad for the industry but health is more important right now.”

  • Having a positive mind like you, Mr Governor is what we PNGans expect from the floor of the Parliament by the Prime Minister to be addressed Nationally and seeing someone like being concerned provincially indicates someone of a big heart for your people..
