ORO Governor Gary Juffa has allocated funding to train local level government councillors and presidents on leadership and understanding the laws governing expenditure of public funds and the constitution.

The training is expected to be carried out by former Ombudsman Ila Geno and former acting judge Nema Yalo.

It is part of reforms he wants in the province to improve service delivery to the people.

Juffa commended the provincial administration for improving its control measures and systems of review and monitoring.

He received a briefing update from acting provincial administrator John Pai, who has continued with the reforms implemented by his predecessor.

The reforms include the creation of a Provincial Supplies and Tenders Board, the establishment of the disciplinary committee and regular meetings of the internal audit committee.

The provincial government has called for tenders for all provincial services improvement programme projects and infrastructure projects.

The process of procurement and selection is near completion.

The disciplinary committee has met several times and several public servants have been disciplined.

Juffa said the administration would be receiving assistance from the Department of Personnel Management and the Australian Government to develop an effective and efficient service delivery mechanism.
