DEFENCE walked into the Port Moresby Rugby Football Union grand final with a solid 24-10 win over Juggernauts.
It was a reminder for the University Piggies whom they face on Saturday at the Murray Barracks Ovals.
Sydney Wesley’s hot outfit stamped their authority as the front-running favourites, with a clinical effort via theirlivewire control room, first-five Adeck Naio and scrum-half, Libert Suang.
The 14 point win a week after their preliminary final 20-17 loss to the Piggies came with an impressive attack and flair that inevitably spelt out a halves combination intent on taking its chances wide and on the run.
Juggernauts looked the dominant side from the start on Saturday afternoon, with fly-half Wesley Rooney on song with the ball and boot.
But opposite Naio’s decision to take it wider to the centres quickly became the catalyst for what ensued.
Centre Alfred Bagasel opened things up for the Murray Barracks men with a try early, and then cleared the way for a ‘wolfpack’ ready and rearing in Jeremiah Buengen, Misiel Silas and Graham Sakora.
The domination was easily spurred on by the brains behind it at every ruck and maul, in half Suang.
The 19-year-old made all the right decisions at the back of a pack willing to do anything to keep the ball moving.
Saturday’s semi-final win finally sets up the two historical rivals, Uni and Defence, a long time coming, before and after the split in the competition.
In the A grade, Motu Warriors defeated the Valley Hunters to book that final against University, while University qualified for the Under-20 title.
