JUGU were unstoppable on Saturday as they registered their fifth straight win in the National Capital District volleyball Association competition at the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre.
The top-of-the-table clash saw Jugu defeat Phoenix 3-1.
Phoenix looked ready to spring an upset after they outplayed Jugu in the opening set 25-22.
Although Jugu were skillful in attack, Phoenix defended well with solid blocks to claim the opener.
Coach Alex Gima said his Jugu were not in the contest as they started slow, but his men fought back to claim the next three sets to seal the win.
“There were a lot of mistakes that cost us the first set,” he said.
“Most of them came from our serves.”
Gima’s men re-grouped after the opening set and came out firing in the second.
Momo Taera Jr, Eka Solomon, Willie Sevese, John Soi, Freddy Ina and Ela Gladstone were unstoppable in set two as Jugu thrashed Phoenix 25-11.
The game ended in the fourth set with Jugu taking the win.
The win saw Jugu become the clear frontrunners.
“We were sharing the first place, but the win now sees Jugu ahead of Phoenix,” Gima said.
“Jugu will be hard to dethrone as the ladder leaders.”
