Jugu win season opener over Snipers

JUGU tipped off their season with a 3-1 win over Snipers in the men’s division of the National Capital District Volleyball Association competition at the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre on Saturday.
Both teams came out firing with solid spikes, but Jugu made the most of their opportunities to claim a 25-17 win in the first set.
Snipers re-grouped and halted Jugu’s momentum with a 27-25 win in the second set.
But Jugu were persistent in attack as setter John Soi combined well with spikers Ella Gestons, Mauri Siniva, Willem Sevese, Eka Solomon and Fredy Kwaragu to bag the third and fourth sets.
Jugu coach Alex Gima commended his players for sticking to their roles.
“It was a team effort,” he said.
“This made it easy for the setter to control the game.”
With the season still in its early stages, Gima urged the team to remain for the remainder of their campaign.
He warned his men to avoid complacency if they were to remain consistent.
“I always remind them that one win doesn’t determine the whole season,” Gima said.
“Every game has to be taken seriously.
“The team are doing fine at the moment, so we’re looking forward to the rest of the season.”
Meanwhile, Gima said the association would select a train-on squad this month to prepare for the national championships.
