THE newly-formed Port Moresby Basketball Association (POMBA) on Sunday hosted its final session of a two-week trial with more than 200 children in attendance at the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre.
Co-founder Lawrence Lahari, pictured, said in a statement that the association would run a 10-week competition following the trial with six teams set to take part in five divisions.
Lahari said the association’s aim was to set up a junior programme to equip children with basketball and life skills.
“Having an organised junior competition will see more people learn the sport early and become better basketballers,” he said.
“We also want to teach the right principles of life like discipline, hard work, honesty, education and being responsible. These things need to be taught at a young age and that’s what POMBA aims to do.”
