THE launching of the first ever junior netball competition in  Cloudy Bay, Abau, was organised by the Merani Netball Association last Saturday and attracted more than 100 enthusiastic junior netballers.
Merani village councillor Peter Arua officially launched the junior netball competition and donated trophies, medallions and balls on behalf of his family.
He said such programmes should be supported by local MPs, LLGs and business houses for youths and children to have alternative activities to keep them occupied when back in the villages on the weekends and during school holidays.
One of the district volunteer sports coordinators for NCD, Hoge Baeau, was invited to the launching and also donated netballs to boost the competition which she encouraged in her previous visit to Merani in June when she conducted a coaching clinic for the seniors.
She pledged to donate shields for the U6, U10, U15 and U20 and the senior division of the competition.
The juniors competition will go on for the duration of the school holidays and until the start of the new school.
The seniors competition is set to commence in February.
